Server Reforged runs game servers on a spare laptop or desktop you own. This page covers the three steps from that computer to a server your friends can join.
Before you start
Check the requirements first. The spare computer has to be plugged into your router with an ethernet cable, because we don’t support running a server over WiFi.
The three steps
- Install Ubuntu Server. Ubuntu Server is a free operating system for running servers. Installing it erases everything on the spare computer, so pick one you don’t mind wiping. The install guide pictures every screen.
- Connect it to Server Reforged. Copy one command from your dashboard and run it on the spare computer. The command links the computer to your account. Connect your computer walks through it.
- Create your game server. Pick your game, change any settings you want, and send your friends the connection details from your dashboard.
The first time through takes about half an hour, and most of that is waiting on downloads. After that, you manage everything from your dashboard in a browser.
